Alarm sound not playing ?

The alarm sounds won’t get played if the silence switch is activated. The iPod keeps playing no matter of it’s position.

When you select the alarm sound it should be played until the sound gets tapped again, another sound gets selected, or the selection screen gets closed. If this does not happen it’s usually caused by the silence switch.

Since the silence switch setting can only be overridden by media player apps or by the current foreground app, there is no way to make “background” alarms to play there sounds. To get a consistent behavior, the clock app also respects the switch when it is the foreground app.

Why can’t I select my own alarm sounds ?

For the alarms which gets fired when the app is not running in the foreground the iOS system limits the use of alarm sounds to those included in the signed app. Adding additional sounds to the app breaks code signing.

This limitation does not apply for alarm sounds played while the app is in the foreground. Let me know if you would like to have the opportunity to select your own sounds for “foreground” alarms. You can use the contact page.
